Bill graduated from Concord High School in 1942 and went on to U Mass in Amherst. During WWII, he left to join the Marines where he trained to be a pilot by the US Navy. These photos were taken by Bill and show the pilots at work … and play. They have been assembled here after Bill’s death in 1992. An effort to connect with some of his colleagues finally paid off in with Ed Cartoski who lived until 2025 after a storied career. This first grouping of photos are from 1944 in South Carolina, both Congaree and Paris Island. Follow links for other decades including 1950 when Bill was called up during the Korean War.
